INDOOR AIR SCIENCE
Humidity

Humidity is caused by tiny droplets of water suspended in the air. Relative humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air relative to how much that air mass can contain (50% relative humidity means that the air contains half of the maximum water vapor it can hold).

Warm air is able to support a much higher volume of water vapor than is cold air. So when you heat your home in the winter, the relative humidity drops dramatically.

In the summertime, excessive humidity in your home contributes to:

• Growth of mold and bacteria, which can aggravate asthma and allergies. Toxic black mold can be extremely hazardous to your health.
Warping of wood fibers, which can damage your house and furniture.
• The accelerated release of chemicals such as formaldehyde into the air from treated building materials.

The RecoupAerator’s® patented air exchange technology keeps your indoor air pure and your temperature and humidity stable year 'round. The RecoupAerator® series of energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) help remove excess humidity in summer and maintain healthy humidity in winter.
